The HTC One is a pricey piece of hardware coming in at $600 outright or anywhere from $99 to $199 on a new two-year contract with a carrier, depending on the storage size you end up with. When you get your HTC One, it should be everything you want it to be. It should be an extension of yourself, right down to the color you choose.

The HTC One is one of the most well received smartphones today, design-wise, and we’re going to compare the two currently available colors — Glacial Silver and Stealth Black.

While the changes are pretty simplistic, there are a few major factors that could change your mind on getting the Stealth Black model. Anything that wasn’t already black on the silver HTC One has been made so. Basically, you’re looking at the same quality, aluminum material with a fresh coat of new paint, along with what seems to be a slightly modified finish, as is evident by the Beats Audio logo rubbing off.

It seems the color added a slim layer that makes anything on top susceptible to being rubbed off, and that can’t really be avoided. Naturally, your fingers are oily and your hands sweat, and that, as unfortunate as it is, cakes into the finish.

If you’re worried about looks, you will want to make sure to keep the Stealth Black version clean, as the smudges and oils are pretty easy to spot. Not to mention it’d be a bit more slippery in the hand. It’s just something to be wary of before making this significant purchase.

Fortunately, these small details don’t make a return in the Glacial Silver model. I love the Stealth Black version, and I wouldn’t have it any other way. Sure, there are plenty of phones out there that are black, but the aluminum material makes the HTC One just that more sleek.

Despite the small, few disadvantages to the black model, it’s also a great choice if you do a lot of media consumption in the dark, such as lying in bed. I’d say it gives a more cinema-like experience, as all you can really see is its beautiful 1080p display, as the phone is able to blend into the darkness. Stealth really is the operative word here.

When it comes down to it, it’s a personal preference. Do you want the silver HTC One with its more defined look or do you want the sleekness of the black model? It’s ultimately up to you.
