HTC recently announced it would bring to market several mid-range devices by the end of the year, in addition to the One Max that we all await with bated breath.
The recently leaked Zara is one of those mid-rangers, and it looks that HTC is riding the Mini trend hard, with a Zara Mini reportedly cued up.
The Zara Mini leaked almost simultaneously from three sources. The device was spotted in Tenaa filings, which are the Chinese equivalent of the FCC documentation that all manufacturers must file in order to sell their mobile devices.
Then the device showed up on a Chinese website in a revealing series of hands-on photos:
Finally, the ever plugged-in @evleaks chimed in with the codename of the device, which is apparently Z3.
So, how will the HTC Zara Mini (also known as HTC 301e) entice would-be buyers? In terms of specifications, the Z3 is clearly entry level. We’re looking at:
- A 4.3-inch 800 x 480 TFT LCD display
- Dual-core 1GHz processor, possibly Snapdragon 400
- Just 512MB of RAM
- 8GB of storage, expandable
- 5MP rear camera, 1.3MP front camera
- Dual-SIM
- Android 4.1.2
Looking at the pictures, we see the same trend we’ve seen at the larger Zara, which is to combine the design of the successful One series with cues from older devices. Needless to say, there’s no trace of metal in the Zara Mini.
No word yet on the availability of the HTC Zara Mini/Z3, though its price should be appropriately low at about $200.
